Pop in from dusk and appreciate the new lighting in all its glory (so hard to capture in photos!). Installed to improve safety, aesthetics and encourage safe exploration across the town centre.
We’re proud and excited to see this permanent lighting scheme in Devoils Lane come to fruition. The pretty zig-zagging festoon lights encourage movement from Market Square, down the steps to Devoils Lane and into Bridge Street and beyond. Funded jointly between Bishop’s Stortford BID and Jackson Square and provided by Aylesford Electrical.
In addition, you may have noticed twinkly lights in six trees – five on South Street, starting from the junction with Newtown Road up into the town centre, and and one opposite Market Square at the end of Palmers Lane. The lights are provided by Lite Festive and are paid for by the BID.
The BID is undertaking a full audit of the town centre, highlighting other areas which would benefit from additional lighting. Some creative thinking is required in many cases, but rest assured we’re on it and doing everything we can. Watch this space in 2026!
