This award highlights individuals in our community who go above and beyond to bring something special and noteworthy to the town.
Our winner from June is a little different. An unsung hero in the truest sense of the word. Not a face you see when doing your shopping, but one you will likely recognise from around the town. Someone who dedicates their time to protecting the most vulnerable and in turn the whole community. No fuss, no fanfare, just because he really cares.

Sinead Corr, News Editor at Bishop’s Stortford Independent says, “David is an outstanding example of everything that’s good about Bishop’s Stortford. His work as manager of Holy Trinity Night Shelter and Community Outreach speaks for itself, but David always goes above and beyond. Nobody likes to see homeless people on our town centre streets, but we can always be confident that they have been offered the best advice and support by David – seemingly at any time of the day and night. Through his work with other town centre charities, like the food bank, the Salvation Army and Citizens Advice, he’s the glue that sticks the community together”.
Jim Tatchell, Chair of Trustees at the Bishop’s Stortford Food Bank added, “Dave is a familiar face around the town, but he’s not just wandering about – he’s making sure that the most vulnerable in our community are watched over, cared for and accommodated. Under his management, the Holy Trinity Night Shelter has gone from strength to strength and shows what can be achieved with the care, common sense and effort that Dave puts in on a daily basis. Well done Dave for this recognition, you are a true asset to Stortford!”
