Town centre parking this Christmas

Posted: 23/11/2022

Parking in the town centre is always difficult at this time of year. We suggest planning your visit to avoid peak times if possible – after 3pm is usually quieter – or trying a different car park to minimise potential congestion. The new Northgate End car park (opposite Waitrose) is now open and there are other short and long-stay options within easy walking distance of the town centre. Visit our car parking webpage to see where they are located. Car parking leaflets are also available from the Tourist Information Centre in Market Square and from outside Smiggle in Jackson Square shopping centre.

The BID is funding parking marshals in Jackson Square car park every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Friday 26 November in the run-up to Christmas. If a gridlock occurs, they will be available to assist. This may involve closing the car park for a short time while they get traffic moving again.

If you don’t have too much to carry, why not leave your car at home? It will reduce congestion and save you money. Check out our walking guide which highlights 10 routes from the main residential areas of Bishop’s Stortford to the town centre. Copies are available from the same locations as the car parking leaflets.
