TK Maxx / Jackson Square Update

Posted: 12/09/2022

Revised plans for the redevelopment of Jackson Square have, been approved, with work set to take place throughout 2023.

Following feedback from the Bishop’s Stortford community, Legal and General, owners of Jackson Square Shopping Centre, worked with the Council and local authorities over the last 12 months to amend their original proposal and maintain an entrance to the shopping centre via Bridge Street.

As part of the redevelopment, Jackson Square is welcoming global brand TK Maxx into a 21,000 sq ft new retail unit. The store will create jobs for up to 50 local workers that will be employed in a mix of full, part time and casual roles. Several additional new units will also be created outside the centre on Bridge Street.

The development plans will complement the Council’s ‘Old River Lane’ proposals and will provide an improved, active link between the High Street and Old River Lane Site.

Michael Smith, Centre Manager at Jackson Square, said: “There will inevitably be a period of disruption as our centre is expanded, but in the longer term, we know it will be worth it as we are creating an even greater place for our community to meet, spend time and enjoy.

“Working with our customers, listening to them and keeping them informed on every step of this renovation journey has been key to the success of this project so far. This two-way communication will continue to be a priority for us as we bring to life our shared vision to create a vibrant and relevant retail destination in the heart of our town.”

The renovations are due to be complete in 2024.
